A Vita Cirò - 'Rosato' Calabria IGP 2024

$37.00

A Mediterranean rosé from 100% Gaglioppo, a delicious rare grape, native to Calabria, grown in the Fego vineyard, near the Ionian Sea. Produced by husband-and-wife team Francesco and Laura de Franco, this wine is a true sip of the sea; savory, fruity, elegant yet structured, with extreme gastronomic versatility.

Harvest takes place by hand in the second week of September. Only the free-run must is spontaneously fermented after maceration for 12 hours. It is aged in stainless steel for 7 months on the lees after racking at the end of fermentation. Light filtration, unfined, and minimal use of sulfur before bottling.

Make it what you want, a chillable light red or a darker rosé, this is a unique wine that will amaze both rosé and non-rosé drinkers. Think of a mix of flavours of wild strawberry, blood orange, watermelon, sweet licorice with delicious crisp acidity, and a refreshing and persistent finish.

Pairs well with Italian appetizers (bruschetta), seafood dishes (calamari), soft cheeses, or just on its own any day, anytime in good company.

An interesting note: Cirò wine is said to be traced back to when it was supposedly served to the winners at the ancient Olympics.
