Alessandro Viola is located in the province of Trapani, on Sicily's northwestern coast. A trained agronomist and oenologist with degrees in both disciplines, Viola gained experience across Italy before returning to his native Sicily in the late 1990s to focus on his family's land. His approach consists of removing interventions rather than adding them, letting nature guide the process. By the year 2000s, he had obtained organic certification, though his methods have always extended beyond the minimum requirements.
Alessandro’s wines are fermented spontaneously with native yeasts and aged in a combination of stainless steel, fiberglass, and chestnut barrels as required by the cuvée. All wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal or no added sulfites.
The nose opens up with red berries, rose petals and dried herbs. The palate follows with ripe red fruits, touch of pepper and a distinct soft smokiness. The delicate tannins and lively acidity meet harmoniously for an elegant and delicious persistent finish. Able to age gracefully.
Pair it with tomato-based pastas, eggplant, aged hard cheeses, smoky or BBQ chips.
Region: Sicily, Italy
Grape: 100% Nerello Mascalese
