Amatria is born in 2020 as a family project managed by Josu Amatria, oenologist by profession, and Raquel Elizalde, a lawyer. Together, they firmly believed in the quality of this winegrowing region with a main focus in the Garnacha grape which adapts really well to the terroir. Josu’s experience comes after spending several years in wine regions in Chile, California and Spain. In 2020 Josu found small vineyards in his father’s natal town of Ayegui that go back a century ago and the project began to take form.
The vineyards that are part of their project are old, small grape plots located in an area by the name of Tierra Estella worked by hand, maintaining the traditional method with respect to the soil. The same way the wines are made to keep the true expression of the region with no additives added, spontaneous fermentation, native yeasts.
This Garnacha is a brilliant red on the glass. On the nose it offers delicious notes of red fruits, cherry, strawberry, blackberry. The mouth has an easy approach with a lively acidity that makes it very fresh, easy to drink with a long finish.
Pairs well with roasted meats, Spanish paella, Spanish cheeses and spicy tacos.
