Note from winemaker: The first Bodega Cerrón vineyards came into possession of the family in 1895, since when we have followed traditional farming practices based on respect for nature and environment. A century later, in 1995, this led to the winery achieving one of the first organic certification awarded in Spain. The wines of Bodega Cerrón are made using organic grapes from our single estate winery in the village of Fuente-Alamo in the south-east of Spain, where brothers Juan, Carlos and sister Lucia call their home "Bodega Cerrón". Now in its fourth generation, the trio continues to honored their family's traditional winemaking methods.
Matas Altas Tinto made from the Monastrell variety from different old vineyards planted between 1911-1967, the youngest of which dates from 1967, all ungrafted and dry farmed in their village Fuente-Álamo and planted with field blends, mostly Monastrell but with other varieties, on limestone soils with different textures; marl, sand and gravel. It’s fermented with 10% full clusters—the same for all the reds from this vintage—and indigenous yeasts.
Very expressive full-bodied with notes of fresh dark fruits and mediterranean herbs, earthy minerality and a peppery spicy finish with a well structured, velvet tannins. An elegant wine that could age well.
Pairs well with roast beef, Spanish ‘chorizo’ and cured cheeses.
Region: Murcia (Jumilla), Spain
Grape: 100% Monastrell
Vintage: 2024
750ml
