Winemaker’s notes: Ori Marani, is an small artisanal winery nestled on the Caucasus Mountain of Georgia, in the village of Igoeti in Shida Kartli region, established in 2017. Georgia is the cradle of viticulture and winemaking where wine has been made for 8000 years using the same artisanal clay vessel called Qvevri. Ori Marani’s primary focus is the artisanal production of sparkling wines. In addition, they also make still wines cuvees.
Exile On Caucasus is an amber wine made of 100% Rkatsiteli coming from an iconic terroir: Uroebi.
Grapes were harvested the 7th of September 2024. 70% of the harvest was destemmed and put in Qvevri for a skin contact maceration of 14 days. 30% was direct press. After the spontaneous fermentation the wine was pressed and racked to Qvevri and old 350L French barrels. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered with a minimal amount of So2.
In the glass, a yellow color with an golden hue. Very aromatic and fresh on the nose, hints of yellow peaches and hazelnut with nuances of dried apricots supported by tea leaves. The mouth is rich, fresh and complex where dried apricots, almond and suggestions of honey are mixed in harmony giving to the wine a great drinkability. The wine has a long and crisp finish supported by a nice texture.
Pairs well with cured meats, soft or medium aged cheeses, roasted chicken, Asian food and BBQ and even oven-fired pizza.
