Barbacan is a family-run winery, Angelo Sega and his sons Luca and Matteo tend the vineyard. The family cultivates about 20 different clones of Chiavennasca (known as Nebbiolo) in this regions that are planted on terraced slopes at 500 meters above sea level. They practice natural viticulture, striving to maintain and preserve the diversity of their native grape varieties and their identity.
This wine is a red blend of indigenous grape varieties, Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) and Ròssola, Ròssolino, and Ròssolino Rosa, Brugnòla and Negrera which the producer have recovered and re-introduced.
In the glass is shows off with beautiful ruby-red color. It’s followed by aromas of red fruits, spices. The mouth is juicy, vibrant, with lots of red fruits, a touch of spicy, and dried mint flavors. The texture is soft with well-balanced acidity that is very appetizing. A wine with a very enjoyable personality.
Pair it with short ribs, roasted chicken, beef stew, cheese and cured meat board.
